Fungi hunting is full of fun and mushrooms could be so delicious! I think the fact that some of the mushrooms are not edible is the natural arrangement of mushrooms that they are protecting themselves from being all eaten up quickly by humans and animals.
The Morphology of Mushrooms
While hunting mushrooms is so thrilled, carefully observing a mushroom brings fun too. Like all the living things on earth, the mission of mushrooms - the fruits of mycelium - is to plant their offsprings as many as far as possible. But unlike us human, they leave the fate of their offsprings to the hands of the nature God. Observing their morphology, you will find that every type of mushroom is a genius design. For gilled mushroom. their top is an umbrella that keeps their underneath dry, where the radiator-like gills hold maximum tremendous amount of pores in such a limited space. When ready, the umbrella opens up to a right angle, letting the little spores that are fit and dry to get a free ride from the wind, and to fly as far as possible without even spread a wing.
Hunting Thrill
You have to be able to find at least some choice mushrooms to get that thrill. But finding them is always a challenge - we need the ability sensing where and when the ground condition is optimal for fungi with its temperature and moisture. Different types of mushrooms thriving in different conditions. David Arora once said in his book Mushrooms Demystified, “The big part of finding mushrooms is timing, and the big part of timing is luck.”. There is a mutualistic relationship between mushrooms and plants, which added another ingredient for mushroom hunting. Maybe that should be a big part of the game theory - a game designed by nature - just the right amount of challenges to look for them, and surprise!
